It seems like a week of time sensitive posts here on the blog.  First came news that Plastiq’s summer promo was ending a little later than expected.  Next, Robert wrote an outstanding piece about Hawiian Airlines‘ new BOS-HNL route. That’s not a time sensitive piece per se, but there is a sale on these fares from BOS that ends today.

Today we complete the hat trick with a post about the King of the Tier 3 credit cards, the City National Bank Crystal Visa Infinite.  (Like all royalty the card has far too many names) We wrote extensively about this card in our Tier 3 credit cards post last week with special guest MilesPerDay’s Vinh.

In a rather tongue-in-cheek moment I wrote that, “One thing I know I can do to help everyone out is apply for it as I’m 100% certain the day after I do apply the 100k offer will return. 😉 Maybe because only 1/2 of the writers of this blog applied for the card, but we here at the blog couldn’t quite get it to bump up to 100k after that post. The good news is that it seems that Robert did get it up to 75k with his approval:

In the words of Maui from Moana, “You’re Welcome”

A little More About the Card

Doctor of reddit makes a house call on this increased 75k bonus and the breakdown of the card.  DoC’s got a lot about the card over on this blog post, and there’s more on reddit as well.  Be sure to pay close attention to the discussion on these posts as it unfolds.

I think we’ve covered it enough in the above Tier 3 post to not rehash recent info here, but suffice it to say the card is a long term keeper, and could even make sense as a daily spend card for many of you.

How to Apply?

I’m unsure how many people who don’t have this card and don’t have access to it would even be interested in applying.  If you are interested leave a note here. If you’d rather some anonymity you can DM Me on twitter or write me an email as well. I’m going to work on contacting some CNB bankers and see if I can get any of them to accept applications from readers.

Update (9/21): Now have a confirmed good application method for anyone interested.

Update (9/24): Confirmed approvals starting to roll in from readers!

  1. Hey Sam,

I’m a long time reader. (even waited during the dark years). Would love to get a way to apply. Also, can you tell me any advice on adding the AUs. Should I put them in my kids names? Do they need an SSN?

  2. Hi Sam,
We live in WA, so no CNB branches near us. Would love to be able to apply for me and my wife. Can you help us? Thanks!

  3. Hi Sam – thanks for this post – would love to be able to apply for this without a branch visit if you have any contacts for that – appreciate it

  4. Hello thanks for this blog post

I am interested in knowing your method of applying to CNB visa as well

Living in a state without a branch in sight for hundreds of miles as well

Would appreciate if you could share, thank you so much in advance!

  5. Hi Sam, I live in a non-CNB state. I would really appreciate it if you could please let me know how I can apply. Thanks.

  6. Hi Sam,

I live in a state that CNB thinks is not cool to set up a branch (I guess). I would really appreciate it if you could please let me know how I can apply. Thanks.

  7. Hi Sam-

I live in a CNB state but the branch is in Nashville. I would truly appreciate your advise on how to apply.

    Thanks Much!

  8. Hey Sam, I’m in MA which only has a cnb Commercial Banking branch unfortunately. I emailed cnb but got the generic, “We are a relationship based bank …” message. I would really appreciate it if you could please let me know how else I can apply. Thanks.

    • Daniel: I emailed the info to you. The best tip I can give you us to use the highest proof of income you have. W2, Paycheck stub, or first page of your tax return. They’ll probably ask you to send the w2 in–if that’s not the highest of the three options go with what is to increase odds of approval.

  9. Hey Sam,
I won’t be in Cali until December, which will probably be too late for the increased signup bonus. Would appreciate hearing about an easier application that I can do from the midwest. Thanks!

  10. Sam, sent you an email but figured i’d post here as well – if the information regarding applying for this card without a trip to a branch is still available, would definitely appreciate learning about it, Thanks!

  11. Hi Sam,

I am very interested in being able to apply for this Visa Infinite card without traveling far.
