Amex is back with a heightened referral off that rewards spend on the card you’re referring from in addition to Membership Rewards.
After a friend is referred and approved for a new Amex card:
- +4x on travel and transit purchases
- Up to $20,000 in spend
- Within 3 months of when your friend is approved
- Friend must be approved by 11/14/2022
I’m seeing this referral offer on Amex Business cards that earn Membership Rewards. Co-branded cards seem excluded from the opportunity.
The +4x is on top of 5,000-25,000 Membership Rewards points that we’re seeing recently depending on the card you’re referring from and whether you’re targeted for a heightened referral bonus.
The +4x on travel is also on top of whatever other bonuses your spend might qualify for. Say you’re working towards a welcome bonus, you’re earning +5x of airfare booked through Amex Travel on the Business Platinum, you’re working on a retention bonus, or bonuses for adding employees.
So if you can find a way to maximize spend travel and transit – this could be quite lucrative.
Amex seems to like running referral promos like this in Q4. In 2020 they had the three for all. In 2021 they had four for us. Each time, the offer seems to get more capped and more focused in the categories. But I have a feeling that enterprising points enthusiasts will find a way to maximize spend on travel and transit.
